Feeding update...

Today was Faith's feeding doctor appointment. We have been waiting anxiously for this one, to see how she was doing with weight and with her eating by mouth. Our doctor, who I speak of regularly, is wonderful and so caring not to mention she leans towards the alternative treatments. She was quite impressed with our feeding log that we kept for a week. Faith had taken in over 350 cals in 8 days! I was secretly hoping that she would say that we could start decreasing a feeding tube meal but she didn't....booooo. Her reason was that she wants to see Faith eating a more regular pattern of meals....at least lunch and dinner every day. Right now we offer her food mostly just at dinner when we are at home. She seems to be less distracted and more interested when she sees us both eating at the table. It is a fine line we are walking, trying to keep her interested without forcing it on her and trying to work out a schedule for something that we haven't done in years! So our next goal is to get her eating at least an oz or two around lunch and then 2-3 oz at dinner. If she does well with this, the doctor says she will probably start trying to go down on a feeding in 8 weeks, when we go back. (crossing fingers...) Faith did not gain any weight, she actually stayed exactly the same but had grown another 1/4inch in the last 7 weeks! I was a little bummed but over the last week she has been extremely bad off with allergies and has not wanted to eat at all, so I attributed the weight thing to that. The doctor also wanted us to add another supplement to Faith's routine. Milled flax seed (you can read all about flax here). We are to add a tsp to her evening meal, just mixed into her food. Doctor says it should help with Faith's constipation and also give her an extra boost of Omega 3's and a few other good things. So our visit was good but with a twinge of disappointment but we have a plan to get to were we want her to be. That's a good thing, right!

Great news about the cals. I know you were so close, but chin up it's not far away now. I hope the next appointment flies in. Well done Faith:) Jen.

that is great about the calories! I know Faith can do it, I can see it in her smile. You can tell she is proud of herself:)
The flax seed is great, I put it in Little Man's food. I also put a tbsp of olive oil in everything.

She's totally on her way. You can just tell.

We give Charlie this stuff called Fruit-eze to help prevent constipation. It works most of the time.
